PAST SIMPLE (revision)

*Usamos el pasado simple para describir acciones finalizadas y situaciones en el pasado.

* Como en todo tiempo verbal, existen oraciones afirmativas, negativas e interrogativas.

*En el tiempo pasado simple los verbos y los verbos auxiliares son iguales para todas las personas.

*Existen dos tipos de verbos ____ REGULARES (terminan en –ED)

                                              ____ IRREGULARES (2da columna de  la lista de verbos)   

               Ejemplo de algunos verbos REGULARES: arrive- arrived/ play-  played/ watch- watched/  study- studied ( termina en consonante + -Y : stuDY, entonces la -Y se convierte en I y luego agrega -ED)/walk-  walked/ talk-  talked/ phone- phoned/ like- liked/ stop- stopped/ cook- cooked,  etc.

                 Ejemplo de algunos verbos IRREGULARES:

*ORACIONES AFIRMATIVAS:

I WENT to Mar del Plata last summer holidays.

My friend COOKED a delicious cake yesterday.

*ORACIONES NEGATIVAS (para negar una oración necesito el verbo auxiliar DIDN´T + verbo infinitivo). El verbo va siempre en infinitivo porque el didn´t ya tiene el pasado y la negación. En este caso infinitivo sería que no agrega –ED ni que tampoco cambia (verbos irregulares)

He DIDN´T study for the Maths test.

They DIDN´T like the film.

*ORACIONES INTERROGATIVAS : existen dos tipos de preguntas, las que requieren de respuestas cortas YES/ NO y las que tengo que dar información que son las que empiezan con WH- (When, Where, What, Who, Which, Why, What time, How, How much, How many?) Ambos tipos de preguntas llevan el auxiliar DID. El verbo siempre va a ir en infinitivo porque el pasado ya lo tiene el auxiliar did.

THE RICHEST WOMAN IN BRITAIN

The richest woman in the UK is now Joanne Kathleen Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books. But life hasn´t always been easy for her.

She was born on 31 st July 1965 and started writing at the early age of six. At school she was very quiet and didn´t like sport much. Her favourite subjects were English and Language. After school she studied French at Exeter University and she later became a bilingual secretary. She didn´t enjoy her life as a secretary and when she was 26 she left the UK to teach English in Portugal. She met and married a journalist and their daughter, Jessica, was born in 1995. The marriage ended in divorce and Ms Rowling moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. It was during this period that she started her first Harry Potter novel, which she wrote in a café while her daughter was asleep.

She published Harry Potter and the Philosopher´s Stone in 1997 and in the same year she won one of the most important book awards in Britain. Since then millions of people have read her books in many different languages, and millions have seen the Harry Potter films. Everybody knows who she is and everybody has heard of the famous character she has created. Harry Potter´s possibly the most famous boy in the world.
